Because of many requests to this effect, those who wish to make a four day retreat are invited to come on Thursday. Those coming for a regular weekend retreat may come on Friday. MAY 14-28, 2012 ENJOY ITALY WITH FR. OWENS

Dear Friends of Manresa,
I am leading a two week tour and pilgrimage to some of the most beautiful and spiritually significant places in Italy from May 14-28, 2012. Wouldn’t it be great if you
could join me and others for this unforgettable time! We will be going to Rome, Assisi, Greccio, Arezzo, LaVerna, San Giovanni Rotondo and back to Rome over the last two weeks of May. Our first full day will include a general audience with Pope Benedict at the Paul VI auditorium; our last day will be Pentecost Sunday when we will join Pope Benedict for an outdoor mass in front of St. Peter’s Basilica.
Special highlights will be visits to the four great basilicas of Rome plus the rooms of St. Ignatius and the Jesuit Church, the Gesu in Rome; then Greccio, a tiny village where St. Francis of Assisi began the custom of the Christmas crib scene; next Assisi itself, which has a peace and small town beauty like no other place on earth as well as very
beautiful places that Sts. Francis and Clare and their followers frequented to be quiet with God; LaVerna, a special place in the mountains of central Italy where Francis received the stigmata (five wounds of Jesus) and there is now a very impressive Franciscan retreat house. Then a visit to San Giovanni Rotondo in southeastern Italy where St. Padre Pio lived and served as confessor and healer in numerous miraculous ways. His spiritual legacy as well as hospital care there for children in need of surgery are remarkable. We will have mass each day at a number of these special places, one of them outdoors at a little altar in the woods of Assisi where Francis would love to pray. And then there is the beauty of Italy in springtime, its flowers, its food, its music, its love for life and relaxation. Our guide will be my special friend, Giorgio Abate, who lives in Rome, speaks great English, and loves to sing with guitar. His humor and care for the pilgrims in his charge will be such an addition to an already great trip! Can it get any better? So…please come for a trip of a lifetime!
