Although the Jesuits have been in Hungary since 1561, the independent province of Hungary was not created until 1909. Prior to that it was part of the Austrian Jesuit Province.

2009 was the occasion for a celebration of the centenary of the Hungarian Province and it was marked with a special Philatelic Exhibition in September of that year.
