And yet\, they offer nourishing food for our souls. \nThis fall semester we’ll study some of these letters\, including Titus\, I & II Timothy\, I & II Peter\, James and Jude. Join us as we take an interesting look at what the first generation of Christians looked like and consider what the letters have to say to us today. \nInstructor: Fr. How can we grow in our spiritual journey so that we become fully alive and deeply human? \nDavid Benner presents a psychologically informed understanding of spirituality\, examining the difference between a deep and shallow religious experience and healthy and unhealthy relationships with God. This book will appeal to those seeking depth and substance in their quest for authentic spirituality. \nBefore our first meeting\, please read Part One\, Chapters 1 and 2\, and jot notes for the following reflection items: Chapter 1\, #4 and Chapter 2\, #4. Then read Part Three\, Chapter 8 and practice the four exercises. *Zoom instructions will be emailed to registered participants prior to each session. \nFacilitator: Rosemary Insley is a retired chaplain and bereavement counselor\, with Master’s degrees in Pastoral Studies and Social Work. In the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola\, contemplation is an active way of praying that engages the mind and heart and stirs up thoughts and emotions. \nWe invite you to join us on Sunday afternoons to experience a guided contemplative prayer in Spanish. In each session\, you will have reflective time to spend in silence and there will be time for sharing. DESCRIPTION:Sept. 5\, 19\nOct. 3\, 17\, 31\nNov. 14\nDec. 5\, 2023 \nIcons\, more than any other form of art\, are meant to be prayed with. \nEastern Rite icons are quite different from the Western art we have concentrated on so far. The Western Church leaves artists free to paint religious images however they want; the Eastern Church provides guidelines to ensure that icons are theologically sound. That’s because icons are meant to proclaim the Gospel in images as the Scriptures do in words. \nIcons belong in churches\, not museums; they are sacred objects for the prayer corners of our homes\, not decorations for anywhere else. They not only recall historical persons and events\, but they are windows into heaven that put us into direct contact with the holy persons or with the enduring heavenly reality of the events portrayed. \nPlease join us and experience their spiritual richness. \nInstructors: Fr. Peter Fennessy\, SJ is a long-time member of Manresa’s ministerial team. Carole Sugrue served as a docent at the Detroit Institute of Arts for more than 30 years.
