SUMMARY:Individually Directed Retreat—Session IV
DESCRIPTION:Every summer we reserve dedicated sessions for Individually Directed Retreats (IDRs) with the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a Jesuit or trained lay person. The experience can help you slow down\, become more aware of God’s love and presence in your life\, and help deepen a loving relationship with God. There’s a special atmosphere in the house when people come together for a shared purpose\, growing closer to the Lord and to one another in silent\, prayerful communion. \n“In-session” dates allow for eight-day retreats as well as retreats of shorter duration (four-day minimum within session dates/times). Arrival time begins at 5:00 PM on the opening date of the retreat session\, dinner is at 6:00 PM and the retreat itself begins at 7:30 PM. The retreat ends at 10:00 AM on the closing date of the retreat session. Alternately\, individuals may choose “out-of-session” dates for IDRs between September and April each year.

These are the questions we will consider in this six-week discussion group on Richard Rohr’s most personal book yet\, The Tears of Things. \nRohr turns to the writings of the Jewish prophets\, revealing how some of the lesser-read books of the Bible offer us a crucial path forward today. He “synthesizes action and contemplation with greater passion and courage than ever before. By retelling the stories of the Biblical prophets\, Rohr calls upon us all to speak truth in our own times and to speak it with love.” \nFacilitator: Rosemary Insley is a retired chaplain and bereavement counselor with Master’s degrees in Pastoral Studies and Social Work. As a spiritual companion\, she guides others in the Spiritual Exercises and in retreats.

DESCRIPTION:The Heart of Discipleship: Answering the Call to Follow Christ \nTo be a disciple of Jesus\, a member of the community of believers\, was central to the gospels and the early life of the Church. Our calling to be Christ’s disciple today is so fundamental to our faith that we sometimes fail to realize its meaning. \nAt its core\, Christian discipleship is about answering the invitation of Jesus to “Come\, follow me” (Matt. 4:19). This invitation is asking for more than an intellectual or emotional response; it is about a transformative journey that touches every sphere of life. Discipleship entails surrendering to the will of God\, aligning one’s values and actions with the teachings of Jesus and striving to live out the gospel message in a world filled with challenges and distractions. \nDuring the days of retreat\, we will explore seven specific features of the call to discipleship: following\, worshiping\, witnessing\, forgiving\, as well as acting as a neighbor\, prophet and steward. DESCRIPTION:The world is charged with the grandeur of God. It will break out like shining from shook foil. It will spread like the ooze of oil crushed. Why do men then do not reck His rod? \nThe opening lines of Gerard Manley Hopkins’ poem ask a question that all of us are challenged to answer. God loved all creation into being\, and God’s love is revealed in the created world. We can encounter the mystery and majesty of God\, demonstrated in the intricacy and perfect balance of the created world. So why\, then\, don’t we pay attention; why are we not surprised and enriched by all of creation? Reflecting on this may reveal some surprising and unique insights for each of us and may reshape how we encounter God each day. \nJoin us for the afternoon which includes two talks\, time for private prayer/devotion\, Sunday Mass and a delicious meal to round out the day. Your retreat begins at 2:00 PM; however\, you may arrive any time after 1:30 PM for refreshments and fellowship. \nFacilitator: Fr.
