SUMMARY:Book Discussion: The Gift of Years
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 12\, 19\, 26 | Feb. 2\, 9\, 16\, 2026 \nThe Gift of Years is “an amazing compendium of wisdom not only for people facing aging or providing support\, but for everyone who wants to live a spiritually centered and balanced life.” Michael Lerner \nJoin us for a discussion of The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully by Joan Chittister. It is an inspirational and illuminating work that looks at the many facets of the aging process\, from purposes and challenges to struggles and surprises. It invites us to not only accept getting older but to celebrate it as a natural part of life that is both active and contemplative\, productive and reflective and deeply moving. This very process of aging affords us the opportunity to discover how we might assimilate our earlier periods of life and find ways to become more fully alive in the new.             \nPlease read the first six chapters of the book before the first session. \nFacilitator: Rosemary Insley is a retired chaplain and bereavement counselor with Master’s degrees in Pastoral Studies and Social Work. As a spiritual companion\, she guides others in the Spiritual Exercises and in retreats. \nZoom instructions will be emailed to registered participants prior to each session. Please sign on by 6:20 PM the first session to resolve any technical issues.

SUMMARY:Sunday Afternoon Reflection—Lent
DESCRIPTION:Echoes of Hope: A Lenten Walk with the Psalms \nThe Psalms\, ancient songs and prayers found in the Old Testament\, give voice to the full spectrum of human experience—from sorrow\, longing and repentance to joy\, trust and praise. \nDuring Lent\, their words invite believers to confront their shortcomings\, seek forgiveness and find hope in God’s steadfast love. \nThis Lenten afternoon dedicated to the Psalms is a time set aside for input\, reflection\, prayer and renewal. Participants will discover that meditating on the Psalms in a communal setting offers an opportunity for personal devotion and a sense of shared pilgrimage toward Easter. \nJoin us for the afternoon\, which includes two talks\, time for private prayer/devotion\, Sunday Mass and a delicious meal to round out the day. Your retreat begins at 2:00 PM; however\, you may arrive any time after 1:30 PM for refreshments and fellowship. \nFacilitators: Fr. Fran Daly\, SJ was ordained in 1972 and has extensive experience teaching Ignatian spirituality and leading the Spiritual Exercises.  From 2014 to 2021 he was Executive Director of Manresa Jesuit Retreat House\, where he continues to facilitate retreats and days of reflection. Sr. Kathie Budesky\, IHM graduated from Mundelein College with a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies and Spirituality and is currently the Director of Visitation North Spirituality Center in Bloomfield Hills\, where she is also a presenter and facilitator.
