SUMMARY:Come\, Have Breakfast: A Book Study on God and Earth
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 13\, 20\, 27 | Feb. 3\, 10\, 17 \n“Come\, have breakfast” (John 21:12) These three simple words followed by generous action open a portal into an ecological image of the living God who is active with cordial hospitality toward all creatures\, nurturing their lives\, desiring that all should be fed. \nJoin us for this book study of Come\, Have Breakfast\, the latest work of prize-winning theologian Elizabeth Johnson\, which views the beauty and threatened state of planet Earth through the lens of Scripture. \nEach luminous meditation offers a snapshot of one aspect of the Holy Mystery Who creates\, indwells\, redeems\, vivifies and sanctifies the whole world. Together\, they offer a panoramic view of the living God Who loves the earth\, accompanies all its creatures in their living and their dying and moves us to care for our uncommon common home. \nFor the first session\, read\, reflect and jot notes on the Introduction. Use this method for the first five sections\, focusing your reflection on the author’s last paragraph. \nFacilitator:  Rosemary Insley is a retired chaplain and bereavement counselor with master’s degrees in pastoral studies and social work. As a spiritual companion\, she guides others in the Spiritual Exercises and in retreats. \n*Zoom instructions will be emailed to registered participants prior to each session. For any technical issues\, email Rosemary at rinsley@aol.com.

SUMMARY:Scripture Study:  Romans and Galatians
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 21 | Feb. 4\, 18 | Mar. 4\, 18 |  Apr. 1\, 15 \nThe experience of sin and grace is among the most fundamental concepts of all humanity and\, in particular\, the Christian faith. In both Romans and Galatians\, the apostle Paul emphasizes that salvation comes through God’s grace and not by following the Mosaic laws. Romans and Galatians take on the topic in a way that is as relevant today as it was when they were written. While Romans explores the theological depth of this concept\, Galatians focuses more on defending the idea of salvation by grace against those who would add works of the Mosaic law to receive salvation. Join us we study these important books of the Bible. \nInstructor: Fr. Steve Hurd\, SJ is co-director of the Internship in Spiritual Companionship and a popular retreat director at Manresa. \nThis course is offered onsite (space limited to 16) or via Zoom. Instructions for Zoom meetings will be emailed to registered participants prior to each session.

SUMMARY:Journaling as a Prayer Practice
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 12 and 26 | Feb. 9 \nThese three sessions offer practical ways of developing and using a prayer journal as an integral part of your prayer practice. Whether you are already journaling or new to the idea\, each session offers practice exercises for spiritual journaling as a regular part of your prayer time. No writing skills are necessary\, just an openness to pay close attention to your review of prayer and then to capture your response for further deepening your relationship with God. \nThis program invites you to learn ways to journal best suited to your needs and offers an opportunity to discover how spiritual journaling can deepen your listening to the personal experience of God at work in your daily life. \nFacilitators: Lori Kneisler has over 20 years’ experience leading Bible studies and spiritual formation groups. A spiritual director and long-time journaler\, Lori enjoys exploring various methods of journaling\, always surprised by what emerges from the tip of her pen. Etta MacDonagh-Dumler is a spiritual companion\, Spiritual Exercises guide\, retreat leader and group facilitator. She is a longtime journal keeper who is attentive to how the practice has helped guide her in discernment and through her spiritual journey. \n*Instructions for Zoom meetings will be emailed to registered participants prior to each session.

SUMMARY:Lectio Prayer Group
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 13 | Feb. 10 | Mar. 10 | Apr. 14 | May 12 | June 9 \nEngaging with the Living Word of God \nHow do we draw closer to God amidst the challenges of modern life? \nThe ancient prayer practice of lectio divina\, enhanced with guidance from St. Ignatius’ teachings\, can help us discover how God is speaking to us today\, in our daily life. We listen deeply to God’s Word\, we have the opportunity to share what God is saying to us\, what we are feeling and experiencing\, and we pray for the specific grace we seek. \nManresa’s Lectio Prayer Group provides a way to grow in our journey to finding God in all things. Consider joining us. \nFacilitators: Paula Dow and Kay Dodson completed Manresa’s Internship in Ignatian Spirituality. They are both experienced in leading lectio divina. \n*Registered participants will receive an email reminder prior to each meeting with a Zoom link to connect to the meeting.

SUMMARY:Praying with Art: James Tissot’s Life of Christ - Part II
DESCRIPTION:Jan. 28 | Feb. 11\, 25 | Mar. 11\, 25 |  Apr. 8\, 22 \nDuring our second semester\, we will continue to look at and pray about the life of Christ as painted by the French artist James Tissot (1836-1902). After a powerful religious experience in 1885 Tissot abandoned the lifestyle and art genres that had until that moment made him respectively notorious and famous. He dedicated the rest of his life to researching and reproducing Christ’s life as it would have looked in the Holy Land of His day. We will begin with the closing events of Jesus’ public life and then look at His passion and death during Lent and His resurrection during Easter Week. You may follow the story in The Life of Jesus by Andrea Tornielli but this is not a required text. \nFacilitator: Fr. Peter Fennessy\, SJ is a long-time member of Manresa’s ministerial team.
