SUMMARY:Sunday Afternoon Reflection: A Time of Quiet Expectation
DESCRIPTION:A Time of Quiet Expectation \nAdvent is a time of expectation. When around small children it is hard not to experience their increasing excitement of the coming of Christmas and the gifts under the Christmas tree. But there is a deeper expectation during Advent. It is the expectation of experiencing the Lord Jesus’ coming to us in new and more meaningful ways. Join us for an afternoon of reflection on the meaning of the Lord’s presence among us. \nThe afternoon includes two talks\, time for private prayer/devotion\, Sunday Mass and a delicious meal to round out the day. Your retreat begins at 2:00 PM; however\, you may arrive any time after 1:30 PM for refreshments and fellowship. \nFacilitator: Fr. Robert Flack\, SJ gives individually directed and conference retreats and offers spiritual direction at Manresa. A native of Chicago\, he has served as a parish priest\, a college professor and as a staff member at Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House in Barrington\, IL. He also served as a spiritual director at St. Joseph College Seminary in Chicago.

We have\, so far\, explored ten different themes\, and this year we’ll be taking a fresh approach. \nFr. Fennessy will guide us through some of his favorite masterpieces from across art history\, spanning both the life of Christ and beyond\, like Bouts’ “Virgin and Child” (see image)\, Hawksley’s “Mary and Elizabeth” or the early American “Baby in a Red Chair.” We invite you to join us in appreciating these beautiful works and learning how to incorporate them into your personal prayer life. \nFacilitator: Fr. Peter Fennessy\, SJ is superior of the Jesuit community at Manresa.  He joined the staff in 2001 after missionary work in Jamaica\, theological studies at Oxford University and 26 years in campus ministry at John Carroll University in Cleveland. He gives individually directed and conference retreats using fine art wherever possible to illustrate his presentations.
